municipal solid waste management experience in the areas of organics recycling, solid waste
collection and recycling programs, disaster debris management, and capital projects planning and

Shiva Ahrens is a Principal Research Scientist at Florida Crystals. She completed her PhD in Soil
Biogeochemistry in Indiana University and joined Florida Crystals’ Research & Development Department
as the Crop Nutritionist in 2017. Shiva began her involvement in the compost industry by managing a
large-scale compost project at Florida Cryst
Shiva Ahrens is a Principal Research Scientist at Florida Crystals. She completed her PhD in Soil
Biogeochemistry in Indiana University and joined Florida Crystals’ Research & Development Department
as the Crop Nutritionist in 2017. Shiva began her involvement in the compost industry by managing a
large-scale compost project at Florida Crystals using sugarcane harvesting and milling byproducts as the
feedstock, producing about 100,000 tons of compost per year. Shive became a Certified Compost
Operations Manager (CCOM) in 2021.
Dustin DuBois is the Founder of Filthy Organics. He is an entrepreneur, veteran and former Navy SWCC. Serving in the United States Navy, he was stationed in San Diego. Charlie Pioli, started his career in solid waste & recycling consulting, where he witnessed the egregious waste our country produces on a regular basis. Spurred to action, he started O-Town Compost, because he thought it'd be fun, and to give his community a sustainable option to recycle their food scraps.

Prior to starting CycleLogic, Mr. Hill was the Project Manager and Marketing Manager with Veolia Water North America at the Baltimore City Composting Facility. He was responsible for annually producing and profitably marketing between 75,000 and 85,000 cubic yards of ORGRO® brand compost, while managing this facility.
Previously, he managed 3 yard trim composting facilities serving 5 counties in Maryland. As Project Manager, he was responsible for the production and marketing of greater than 160,000 cubic yards of compost per year for these combined facilities.

She is a book author and the author/co-author of many book chapters, refereed research, and extension publications. She has published 60 refereed research publications, one book, ten book chapters, and 135 non-refereed publications.
During her tenure at the University of Florida, her grants from external and internal sources total more than $2.5 million, and she has received 1 million dollars in In-kind contributions from the citrus and vegetable industry.
