SPEAKERS
Dr. Monica Hampton is well known in agriculture. She has been called Florida’s “Compost Queen” through her research and workshops on compost utilization through UF/IFAS and the US Composting Council. She is the founder and CEO of TerraNutri, LLC., a consulting company specializing in research and development in agriculture/compost and composting. You can contact her at Linkedin.com/in/Monica Hampton
Dr. Lanette Sobel founded the Fertile Earth Worm Farm in 2009, the largest and oldest commercial composter in south Florida, serving Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. She earned a master’s degree in forest pathology and a doctorate in plant medicine from the University of Florida. Dr. Sobel and has also served as faculty at Earth & Life University in Mexico, teaching the first Spanish-language doctoral-level course on circular economies in the world.
Peter Fedele is the founder and owner of Lion Farms, which is a Global Good Agricultural Practices (GLOBAL G.A.P.) and USDA-certified organic farm, specializing in gourmet mushrooms, tropical fruits, aquaponics, microgreens and eggs. Utilizing regenerative practices, they enhance soil health and significantly reduce waste utilizing vermiculture. Spent mushroom growing blocks are composted and converted into OMRI-certified castings and "worm tea" through a zero-waste, Continuous Flow Through (CFT) worm farm, the largest in Florida.
Ricky Lopez is the director of horticulture at Lion Farms. For many years, a chef at some of Miami's top restaurants like Nobu, Ricky turned to agriculture and now heads up the gourmet mushroom production.
